Functional Dry Needling

Functional Dry Needling is a technique that addresses muscle dysfunction which can cause trigger point referred pain or muscle inhibition.

Dry needling is a general term for a therapeutic treatment procedure that involves insertion of a filament needle into a muscle of an area of the body which usually contains a trigger point. If the muscle is shortened or has an active trigger point and the needle is inserted into the “eye” of the trigger point, the muscle may twitch, which assists with resolving the referral pain. At times, functional dry needling can be paired with electrical current, which assists with resetting the muscle rhythm.

Functional dry needling is an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain, rehabilitation from injury, with very few side effects. This technique is unequaled in diagnosing and eliminating neuromuscular dysfunction that leads to pain and functional deficits.

I honestly didn’t realize how poorly I was feeling, and just what could be done to reduce my discomfort, until I had my sessions with Andrea. She helped me recognize what areas of my body were experiencing dysfunction, addressed them with dry needling and myofascial releases to provide me with SO much relief, and educated me on how I can work on these deficits at home. She is such a skilled, comprehensive practitioner that blends eastern and western philosophies for a really refreshing and unique self-care experience. As she’s quickly gaining popularity, I hope she will continue to have room in her schedule to accommodate me, as I plan on being a regular!
